Since 1990, China's lithium battery industry has gradually developed from imitation to independent innovation, from only providing consumer batteries at the beginning to becoming a major supplier of power batteries at the later stage. China's role in the lithium battery industry has become more and more important. After decades of development, China's lithium battery manufacturers have achieved a breakthrough in number from the first few to hundreds now. China has become the world's largest producer and consumer of lithium batteries. Driven by policies and subsidies, China's lithium battery industry has produced many enterprises with global competitiveness.
Lithium ion battery is a kind of rechargeable battery, which mainly depends on the lithium ion moving between the positive and negative electrodes. In the process of charging and discharging, Li + is intercalated and de intercalated between the two electrodes: Li + is de intercalated from the positive electrode and inserted into the negative electrode through the electrolyte, and the negative electrode is in a lithium rich state; in the process of discharging, the opposite is true. Generally, lithium containing materials are used as electrodes for batteries. It is the representative of modern high performance battery.
The upstream raw materials of lithium battery mainly include nickel, cobalt, manganese, lithium and graphite ore, which form positive and negative electrode materials, electrolyte, electrode substrate, diaphragm, etc.; the midstream is to assemble positive and negative electrode materials, electrolyte, electrode substrate, diaphragm into cell for manufacturing and packaging; the downstream is the application field of lithium battery.
In recent years, the demand of 3C products for lithium batteries has increased steadily, and with the gradual expansion of the market scale of new energy vehicles and the demand for energy storage batteries, the production scale of lithium batteries in China has expanded year by year. According to the data of the National Bureau of statistics, the output of lithium batteries in China will continue to grow from 2015 to 2019. In 2019, China's output of lithium-ion batteries will be 15.722 billion. From January to November 2020, the output of lithium-ion batteries in China will reach 16.681 billion.
From January to December 2020, China's power battery loading volume is 63.6gwh, up 2.3% year on year. In 2020, China's power battery shipment will be 80gwh, with a year-on-year growth of 13%. Under the influence of the epidemic, 2020 is still higher than 2019. The main reasons are as follows: 1) in the second half of 2020, the domestic new energy terminal market recovers more than expected, and the new models are released in the second half of 2020, which drives consumers' enthusiasm to buy cars, making the sales volume of domestic new energy vehicle market exceed 1.3 million; 2) in 2020, the European new energy vehicle market grows more than expected, and the annual sales volume exceeds China, which promotes the export scale of some domestic head battery enterprises.
Affected by the continuous decline in the price of lithium-ion batteries, the scale of China's lithium-ion battery industry in 2019 increased slightly to 175 billion yuan compared with the previous year, with a growth rate of only 1.3%, and the growth rate continued to show a downward trend. According to the preliminary estimation of the development trend of lithium battery industry, the scale of China's lithium battery industry will exceed 180 billion yuan in 2020.
